Ally Miller Q&A with County Administrator about county budget

5/13/2013
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact Information:
Jennifer C. Coyle, Chief of Staff
Supervisor Ally Miller, District 1
Pima County Board of Supervisors
(520) 724-2738
jennifer.coyle@pima.gov
SUPERVISOR ALLY MILLER ORGANIZES QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION WITH COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR, CHUCK HUCKELBERRY, ON THE 2013/2014 RECOMMENDED BUDGET
TUCSON, ARIZONA (May 10, 2013) – District 1 Supervisor Ally Miller was disappointed when her request on the May 7, 2013, Board of Supervisors Meeting Addendum for study sessions did not receive enough votes to pass. Supervisor Miller ran on the promise to do everything she could to cut wasteful spending and bring transparency to local government. That’s why she has organized a Question and Answer Session on the County Administrator’s Recommended Fiscal Year 2013/2014 Budget. The meeting is open to the public and will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The meeting will be in the Board of Supervisors Hearing Room in the County Administration Building at 130 W Congress in Tucson, AZ.
The meeting will include County Administrator, Chuck Huckelberry, and various Pima County Department Directors. Supervisor Miller also sent an invitation to District 4 Supervisor, Ray Carroll.
While the meeting is open to the public, there will not be a Call to the Public portion of the meeting. Supervisor Miller is requesting the public email their questions to her at district1@pima.gov or call her office at (520) 724-2738. Her staff will compile the questions and Supervisor Miller will ask Mr. Huckelberry and Department Directors the questions on their behalf. Questions must be received no later than Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 5:00 p.m.
“The citizens of this County deserve the opportunity to hear and be heard during this process and I have organized this Question and Answer Session on behalf of the citizens of Pima County.” says Miller.
Following a May 1, 2013, media report of a proposed 5 percent increase in property taxes, Supervisor Miller received dozens of emails, phone calls, and visits from concerned citizens. “I ran on the promise to do everything I could to cut wasteful spending. The citizens of District 1 elected me and I plan to keep that promise – to serve the taxpayers responsibly and to ensure financial responsibility, accountability, and transparency.” says Miller. Ninety-nine percent of the Study Session Meetings were officially cancelled between 2002 and 2010. In February 2010, they were officially removed from the Board of Supervisors Meeting Calendar.
Supervisor Ally Miller – Supervisor Ally Miller is currently serving her first term as a member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors representing District 1. Supervisor Miller was elected to represent District 1 on November 7, 2012, and began serving her term on January 1, 2013. Supervisor Miller received her B.S. in Business Administration (Finance) from The University of Arizona and a Masters in Business Administration from The University of Arizona Eller School of Management. Her professional experience includes 10 years in the aerospace industry working in finance and accounting, and as a systems engineer in the semiconductor industry. Supervisor Miller is looking forward to applying her private sector experience to the public sector. She has been active in community politics for many years and has worked as a volunteer on several campaigns. She also served as an elected Republican precinct committeewoman for many years. Supervisor Miller is a native of Vermont and has lived in Pima County for more than 30 years. For more information visit www.pima.gov/bos/dist1.
Pima County Budget – Pima County is a subdivision of the State of Arizona and the budget process is governed by State Laws. The County Administrator’s Recommended Fiscal Year 2013/2014 Budget is a $1.2 billion expenditure budget funded by a combination of property taxes, sales taxes, intergovernmental revenues, grants, licenses, fines, and fees.
